Samba does not start

Post by bertradio »

I have run into a strange problem. I have running LM 19.3 and Samba 4.7.6-Ubuntu. Recently my boot time has increased to over 3 minutes. Here is the result of systemd-analyze blame:

It seems the problem is that samba times out. Here is the result of systemctl status nmbd.service smbd.service:

I tried to uninstall and then reinstall samba and that had no effect.

Anyone have an idea as to what the problem might be?

Thanks

Hey bertradio no expert on samba but a google search gave me this guide on how to set up samba https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/install-an ... g-to-share, might be something to lock at. You have a decent machine so that 3 minutes boot time is a bit weird. on witch drive have you installed the os on this one /dev/sdb vendor: Seagate model: ST3500413AS? better to install it on this one /dev/sda vendor: Crucial model: CT500MX500SSD1 is an ssd, or is the os installed on the ssd and the seagate is for storage? side note seagate drives are not that reliably they often crash and i would recommend to replace it, i had to replace my barracuda 1 tb disk just after 1 year of usage. Did you verify the iso before installing the os on the usb? https://linuxmint.com/verify.php
CPU AMD Ryzen 9 7900
Graphic Card: AMD ATI Radeon RX 7900 XT/7900 XTX/7900M
Ram 32 GB ddr 5
Kernel: 6.5.0-14 generic
LM Cinnamon 21.3 edge

Thanks for the reply. In answer to your questions...

Samba was working for a couple of years with no problem and on the original install I verified the iso. LM is installed on my SSD. I had a crash a couple of weeks ago not related to Samba and restored a Timeshift backup. Everything else on my machine is working with no problem. I tried an uninstall of Samba and reinstall and that did not help.
