Hi All, I'd really appreciate some help. My Mint installation failed and now it won't even access the boot menu. I've watched quite a few tutorials but can't access the boot menu (pressing shift or f2, f12, f10, f11). You might have worked out already that I don't know what I'm doing!
It goes straight to the grub menu. I typed exit and I get a message "system bootorder not found. Initializing defaults. However nothing happens.
typing exit again takes me to a blue screen saying "could not install security protocol: (0x2) invalid parameter. the only option is to press Ok, then:
something went seriously wrong, invalid shim parameter. It then shuts down.
The system is a lenovo yoga 310 and unfortunately it's my wife's computer, so I'm dead if I can't sort it out! If anyone has a fix I would be incredibly grateful.
Thanks,
Si

Re: failed install grub menu problems
Do you mean the bios menu? This might help -

On my machine (gigabyte mobo) continually tapping the 'Delete' key gets me into bios menu.

Hi, no...whatever I press doesn't matter, I just get the minimal bash message with grub>
Thanks for helping

To get into computer setup (BIOS) you should press something called the Novo button on the right side of the computer.

Re: failed install grub menu problems
You said your "Mint installation failed" but did not say warnings/errors you received on installing.
I think you are trying to follow indications you have read somewhere for GRUB but in computer (BIOS) boot menu. You don´t mention options you see. Is there an Ubuntu option in that menu?.
Any way grub> shell means you boot Linux Mint (Ubuntu option) so grub-efi maybe is installed but grub can´t find grub menu configuration file (/boot/grub/grub.cfg) wherever it is pointing to or looking for.
If you are trying to boot Windows or another pre-installed system (to be calm), get into your UEFI/BIOS settings and try to find that option (i.e Windows) and place in first place (maybe in hard drive BBS priorities and/or in Boot Order priorities).
If you can't find any other option or want to try repairing that failed installation, boot your Linux Mint Live and post back following code results
Maybe you want consider running Boot Repair (Menu>Administration>Boot Repair) with Create Bootinfo summary option (not Recommend repair option) to share url when offered.

Re: failed install grub menu problems
So you're getting the grub prompt screen, right? There are a few causes for that, some serious, others not. The first thing to look at are your partitions, so boot up into Live Mint, run command sudo parted -l and post up output into your question.
