was using nvidia 450.
downloaded nvidia 470 from
Code: Select all
https://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/driverResults.aspx/177396/en-uk
moved download to /home/.
changed name of file to n-470.run so its easier to type later.
terminal uninstalled nvidia with sudo apt-get purge *nvidia*.
logged out of desktop.
ctrl alt f1.
sudo service lightdm stop.
cd /home/ where my N-470.run file was.
sudo chmod +x ./N-470.run.
sudo ./N-470.run and got x server running error, I tired to kill Xorg or kill X commands in ctrl alt 1 (tty1), didn't work so I just ran sudo n470 anyway lol.
enter to everything except building for later kernels (when install was going).
sudo service lightdm start.
restarted and got to desktop fine. 470 working on 5 4 0 77, but not latest kernel for 5.4 not sure why im using 5.4 and not 5.8 or 5.11.
before I do any above I timeshift create backup and if I can't get to desktop I use mint live usb to desktop, use app disks to load hdd with timeshift backups, use timeshift click finish and then open location to pick the hdd i enabled from disks app. restore and then restart. i have grub hidden on boot up so i forgot you can use previous kernel back ups to boot from... but if I can't get onto usb live I've used ctlr alt 1 spamming on boot up to get to tty1 and once ran a timeshift backup from there and it worked, took a long time though lol.
does anyone have their advice on my process for future? and advice on current kernel and options?
posted this in hope it helps others
