failed on boot (SOLVED)

Post by digger44 »

I had this same problem the other day: "I have a Lenovo IdeaPad z580. This morning I tried to boot into my veracrypt session and got a boot up screen listing 3 options-boot into mint 19.1;advanced;and setup. I chose boot into mint 19.1.i get to the pw box "please unlock disk sda3_crypt. I entered the pw and it said that setup was successful. Then I got a screen that says "BusyBox v1.27.2 (Ubuntu 1.1.27.2-2ubunti3) built in shell (ash). Enter help for list of built in commands. (Inittamfs)." It got resolved by running fsck /dev/mapper/mint--vg-root. I ran this and got at the end "/dev/mapper/mint--vg-root: *****FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED***** /dev/mapper/mint--vg-root: 755863/605588032 files (1.3% non-contiguous) 216648556/242333696 blocks" then (initramfs): I shut down and then rebooted to get back into my system. I am concerned that I will get this error every time I attempt to boot up. I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z580, 64 bit, I ran the command inix -Fxxxrz and got : " System:

I am concerned that this will happen every time I shut down and reboot. For the time being I don't intend to shut down but I am in the Philippines and we get intermiitent power outages and my battery doesn't work so well. I am using MATE environment. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

Then don't use disk encryption. Use veracrypt containers instead.
I am in the Philippines and we get intermiitent power outages ...
All the more reason to not use disk encryption.

In your other thread you stated, "I do not know what to do after this." That alone is sufficient reason to not use disk encryption. It is highly complex and is designed to not be crackable so rescuing a damaged encrypted drive is nigh impossible, if not actually impossible.

By the way, please don't post great walls of totally unreadable text. If you need to post output from a terminal, enclose it in code tags
output.here
. You'll see the code tags icon </> when you reply.

Thank you Kadaitcha Man for your reply. I have used this hard drive for several years without any problems. This is new. I will need to buy a new 4TB hard drive to transfer the info but for the time being this is what I have. Sorry about the terminal output. I was following the guidelines in the "How to get help" guidelines and did not understand about code tags. I do now. I still do not know why this has suddenly happened.
