(SOLVED) MBR error when trying to switch to Windows

Post by herrens-hand »

Hi,

I've been trying to switch from Linux to Windows and haven't been able to do so :(

I used the same method when switching from Windows 10 to Linux Mint, using a bootable USB drive but got an MBR error when booting from USB this time.

What I have:

Linux Mint Xfce 64 bit
Trying to switch to Windows 10 64bit
I used SanDisk 32GB flash drive
UEFI system if that helps

What I have done:

>Plug in USB
>Format it in FAT
>Use the in-built USB Image Writer to make the Bootable USB
>Restart
>Boot using USB drive
>Get MBR error 1

What have I done wrong guys?

Edit for additional note:

When formatting my options were:
Erase: Disabled
Type: For use with all systems and devices (FAT)

Couple of years ago you could use Mint's usb image writer to burn a win iso. I did it and it worked. But last time I tried - no boot. MS have done something. I solved my problem by using rufus in a win7 VM to burn the win iso. Unetbootin in linux may work, never used it myself:

It's not what you've done wrong, more of what you haven't done; researched.

Ventoy method in the first article fixed it, it seems the formatting system needs to be in ExFat since the iso is over 5gigs. Thanks! :)
