[Solved] Mint died after update

Post by james-r »

I am not sure which version of Linux Mint my desktop is using, either 20 or 20.1.

After updating with Software Manager, the PC froze so I had to keep pushing on the shut down button to shut it down.

The Windows 10 partition still works.

Try holding down the shift key as soon as you turn the PC on.
Hopefully you can bring up the grub menu where you will see "Advanced Options for Linux Mint"

When you select it you will see a screen similar to this, but you will have kernel 5.4 shown.

Select the 2nd last option which should be
Linux Mint with Linux 5.4.0-84-generic.

Hopefully it should boot in.

Thank you.

I did it and was able to access Mint but now the Windows option disappeared from boot.

It does not appear in the list.

How can I access Windows again?

You can try using in the termial.

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
It should detect Windows partition and add it to the list.

Yes.

It does so using the latest kernel.

if you can still get to an working Desktop,
then you can also just your Mouse Cursor to the LinuxMint Icon
that is the Start of the Menu List .. in the LHS bottom corner,
.. that will display an Balloon which states your LinuxMint version.
