Greetings.
cant seem to find what is going wrong. when the 3070 is plugged into either pci slot. the screen will lock up on boot. black screen cursor in the corner not blinking. keyboard also locks. no capslock ctrl alt f1 does nothing. yet the system is running. i can ssh in and my auto start vm does it's thing.
if left long at the black screen the gpu starts getting hot full fans. (both in it got loud and toasty)
i have pulled everything i can find that would be blocking the gpu.
3080 only and things work fine.
clean mint install and things work fine. (just really dont want to redo my system from scratch)
have done remove purge and reinstall of nvidia drivers (driver manager)
nouveau driver just does not seem to like the 30xx cards. get low resolution limp mode.
can boot into recovery mode and the nvidia driver seems to behave
been digging for a week of evenings and still stuck.
Halp??
config:
mint 19.3
amd 3900
nvidia 3070 (issue with this)
nvidia 3080 (works fine)
remains of gpu pass-through vfio kvm all that

Re: black screen on boot nvidia driver issue
Sounds like a bad motherboard. If your keyboard and screen are locking up and your GPU is getting hot, then that's my first guess.
If it works beautifully in Windows, then I can certainly be wrong.
What you can do is try installing your Nvidia drivers by typing the following:
When it's done, reboot and see if that helps.

Code: Select all
sudo ubuntu-drivers install

Booting into recovery mode means the Nvidia driver modules are not being used and you are using software rendering for graphics.
Please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal:
inxi -Fxxxrz
Click

from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code markers and paste the results of the command between the code markers [code]

Re: black screen on boot nvidia driver issue
LM19 or LM20? Given the newness of your hardware, I would recommend LM20 and then you could upgrade to the 5.11 kernel which would have better support for your Ryzen 3900.arcturus01 wrote: ⤴Sun Sep 26, 2021 6:06 pm ended up giving up and am in the process of reinsalling ....
