Trouble Installing Office 2013 via Crossover

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to install office 2013 on linux mint, and setup has run into a problem.
It says and is stuck on...

Background installation ran into a problem.

What do I need to do to fix this?

I had a similar problem because I use Wireless cellphone carriers for my Internet.

I am with T-Mobile, but that is not the issue actually.
It was a weak connection from the cell tower to the Hotspot, the SNR was really low, around 2 or maybe up to 3.

I abandoned the install until I moved the Hotspot to a place where the signal strength improved enough, that the SNR climbed up to more than 12.

I feel that maybe you have a poor Internet Connection, and are getting too many Packet Errors.

Can you get access to a better Internet connection, or is my situation totally different than yours?

I have a licensed copy of Cross Over, and MS Office Pro 2003 installed just like it was on the native Win7 HHD I used to use it on.

I also had similar issue installing Photoshop CC. I have a 1Gb connection, but for some reason my download was timing out. I ended up installing with wine-tricks instead. I don't use MS Office, so I don't know the work around.

Which version of crossover? I run office2013 under Crossover 18. It will run under later versions, but it insists that it has not been activated which is why I still use version 18. Long time since I installed it, may have been under Crossover 17, now I just export/import the bottle.

Codeweavers tech support is pretty good.

You could try running sudo /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxfix --auto in a terminal before installing office. This adds in a lot of 32 bit libraries that office needs. Note cxfix is python2 so you will need to install python-is-python2 if running LM20. I have to do this with a fresh install of crossover to get office to run, don't know if it will help with install.

Or could this simply be that the installer is trying to pull stuff from MS and they have shutdown support for office2013 so it can't find what it is looking for?

My connection is ethernet cord from dish directly to computer with no router and is quite fast so that can't be the issue. But perhaps it's unstable for whatever reason, at least when I tried to install.

Which version of crossover?

Good question. I just did my best to find out which version it is, but right click properties didn't do it.

I just went and contacted Crossover support for a solution.
Will reply to this thread with their response so we can all see what the fix is.

I use Wine, Crossover is Wine on steroids so it should work the same. When I install a Windows program it asks what program I want to open it with, the default is Wine and than it installs it. Try clicking on Crossover Help, usually there is a line like 'Crossover' on the bottom in the drop down menu, if you click it it should show the version number.

I suspect you have managed to create two bottles

Delete one.

I use Wine, Crossover is Wine on steroids so it should work the same.

Codeweaver ( Crossover) is part of the Wine project which refines wine on a regular basis.

Crossover is the paid/commercialized version of wine. It's only a one time payment of $59 bucks so I thought why not. Makes it easier and they do great work.

Anyway, whoever said I created two bottles was right. I deleted the one bottle.

Then I tried opening word on there and it looked promising at first, it said it was completing the install, but then got stuck on the following screen for ETERNITY.

Currently, Office is NOT running yet on my computer but I wanted to post an update for anyone interested.

It might be because of some missing libraries https://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/diag mainly the OSMesa one https://www.codeweavers.com/support/wik ... LibOsmesa8 so I would try installing that and clearing the installer cache in Crossover https://www.codeweavers.com/support/wik ... allercache and install it again. For your setup the command would be
/opt/cxoffice/bin/cxfix missinglibosmesa8 missinglibosmesa8.amd64

I cleared the cache,installed OSMesa, but when I reinstalled, the same thing happened, I wrote to support.
They replied...

You may be missing libraries that Crossover needs to run some applications. You can try using the cxfix utility to help install them by running the command
/opt/cxoffice/bin/cxfix --auto
or
~/cxoffice/bin/cxfix --auto
This will report any libraries that are missing, or other issues that Crossover finds and will attempt to install them for you.

They said if this failed, go to the following page of fixes for Crossover issues like this...

So that's where I am now. I took a look at that page but it's way over my head.
Can somebody help me with what to do next?

You could start by doing what I suggested and codeweavers told you to do, in a terminal run:

sudo /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxfix --auto

If you get any errors, post the errors you get.

I've tried all suggestions crossover game me thus far and none of them worked, so they asked me to upload the install package to their server.

I went ahead and did that, just waiting to hear back from them on a fix for this.
Will let you know when I hear back.
