Fail message when booting and slow boot

Post by Johny5 »

I get a message when booting linux:

Code: Select all

[1.568477] nouveau 000:02:00.0: disp: conn 02:0261: func 52 lookup failed, -2
If I get it well the error code is in connection with my display, but I can't find anything how to solve it.

Also, my boot time is too slow, it can be because of the fail.

This is the boot, maybe I can disable somehing, or you can help what takes this long:

Code: Select all

Re: Fail message when booting and slow boot

Hi @Johny5 , welcome to the Linux Mint forums !

Please post the outputs of these commands between

tags:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxrz
cat /etc/fstab
BTW it may be better to put that error message between

tags (that :0261: now points to some non-existent emoji), like

Code: Select all

[1.568477] nouveau 000:02:00.0: disp: conn 02:0261: func 52 lookup failed, -2

Do you get any errors when you type sudo apt update in a terminal? My guess is No.

Please post the output of:

Code: Select all

systemd-analyze critical-chain
Mine is this:

Code: Select all

$ systemd-analyze critical-chain

The situation might improve if you switch to the proprietary NVIDIA drivers (you can do that from the Linux Mint Driver Manager).

Thanks, it worked, now I didn't get the fail message.

BTW I didn't get why you tried to get me back here.
Just for whatever help you can give the OP.

OK, so slow boot is the only problem we have now.
How slow is your boot? How long until you get to the desktop?

The boot takes around 3-5 minutes.

That is an obscene amount of time. What I want to know is how is that possible since my critical chain looks almost identical to yours:

Code: Select all

$ systemd-analyze critical-chain
The time after the unit is active or started is printed after the "@" character.
The time the unit takes to start is printed after the "+" character.

graphical.target @36.517s
└─multi-user.target @36.516s

                                └─-.slice @825ms
and my system boots in 35 seconds or so.

Oh, wait. I was comparing it to my own

It appears your network is the problem. Got any ideas about that? I don't.
