Upgrade Menu Item Missing From Update Manager 'Edit'

Post by asus »

I am unable to upgrade my build of Linux Mint 20.1 Mate to 20.2 Uma because the “Edit->Upgrade to Linux Mint 20.2 Uma” item is missing from the Update Manager 'Edit' menu.

Please advise.

Try reinstalling Update Manager, do one line at a time:

Code: Select all

apt reinstall mintupdate
mintupdate

I tried using the commands in Terminal (one at a time as suggested). This did not fix the problem. The path to upgrading to 20.2 Uma is still missing from the 'Edit' menu in Update Manager.

Sadly, both screenshots are unreadable; please paste result as text with Code tags.
"When posting output of commands use the "Code" tags if it is more than 2 or 3 lines long - this makes it more readable. The button that inserts these tags is marked </>"

Looking at your screenshots, it appears that you're already on LM 20.2. Please open Menu -> Welcome Screen and verify your version.

Wrong. It only says that. I never upgraded to Uma and NONE of the new apps (e.g. Bulky) have been installed on my system. This is a bug that needs to be fixed.

Hello, asus.

Would you mind running the 2 commandlines again, which I had given you, and share the text output in the terminal window with us?
Mark the complete text output with your mouse.
Press <Shift><Ctrl>C to copy the marked text.
Switch to your next forum reply and paste the copied text into your reply.

Thanks,
Karl

Hi, asus.

I see you have decided to stick with screenshots, downsized so much that they cannot be read any longer. Not good.
I had given you the simple steps of sharing something in readable format with us. Still recommending to follow those steps.

I apologize for the size of the screenshots. I needed to reduce the size of the image as the originals were too large and were not accepted as attachments when I attempted to post them. I will redo the screenshots and repost tomorrow.

You can upload your large picture(s) to a hosting site (like Imgur) & then just copy the URL that they will offer back in your next reply..

Hello, asus.

Your output displayed by the command inxi -Sxxxr strongly suggests that your system already runs on Linux Mint 20.2 uma.
This would explain why the Update Manager cannot offer you the option to upgrade to Linux Mint 20.2 uma.

Details, which suggests your system runs Linux Mint 20.2 uma:

Code: Select all

System:
  Host: asus-UX391UA Kernel: 5.4.0-91-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc
  v: 9.3.0 Desktop: MATE 1.24.0 info: mate-panel wm: marco 1.24.0
dm: LightDM 1.30.0 Distro: Linux Mint 20.2 Uma base: Ubuntu 20.04 focal
Last line, the part: Distro: Linux Mint 20.2 Uma plus

Code: Select all

  Active apt repos in: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list
1: deb http://packages.linuxmint.com uma main upstream import backport #id:linuxmint_main
Second line: specifies uma, i.e. LM 20.2, as the Linux Mint release as well.

What precisely makes you assume that your system were not on Linux Mint 20.2 uma, but on a previous release still?
In a previous post, you wrote
asus wrote: Tue Nov 30, 2021 3:24 pmWrong. It only says that. I never upgraded to Uma and NONE of the new apps (e.g. Bulky) have been installed on my system. This is a bug that needs to be fixed.
I am not sure about additional applications like Bulky, which were introduced in LM 20.2 only. - During previous release upgrades, such applications, newly introduced by the new release, had to be installed manually after having upgraded from the previous Mint rel. to the current Mint release. Only fresh installations of the new release from the installation ISO would bring along the new applications automatically.
So you may suspect a bug here, where there is none.
Which other hint is there that your system had not been upgraded to LM 20.2.Uma?

Regards,
Karl
