(SOLVED) Boot Problem after Installation.

Post by IceCreamFellow »

I am having an issue with no boot after "successful install".

My build:
ASUS B550-Plus
Ryzen 5 5600G
G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4-3200 1x16GB
M.2 NVME 1TB SSD (where I installed Mint)
750W PSU

I have a GTX 1080ti currently installed, but I'm using onboard for now until OS is stable and I can get proper drivers installed.

Currently typing this using the "free use" mint from the USB boot installer on above system.

Pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated - the only thing I found online so far was adding "nomodeset" after "quiet splash", but I am unsure how to do that as the grub.cfg file in the boot menu is locked and I can't edit...

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum, IceCreamFellow.

If you installed the Cinnamon desktop, did you use the Linux Mint 20.2 "Uma" - Cinnamon (Edge, 64-bit) ISO? Your Ryzen 5000 series needs to be using a newer kernel than the 5.4 kernel which comes in "regular" Mint.

If you did not install Cinnamon, you may be able to boot into Recovery Mode so you can install the newer kernel. Let us know what you installed.

Did you install the Edge version with the 5.11 kernel? There are two different Uma Cinnamon editions.

Open the System Information app to see which version Linux kernel is listed.

Impressive ma'am!

I just checked and I am showing kernel 5.4.0-74-generic.

Will try the proper kernel and advise.

Thanks!
