Error after updating Kernel

Post by Gurus_username »

I'm running Linux mint cinnamon 20.2.

I'm not able to change my screen resolution, and trawling this forum, someone suggested updating to the latest kernel, 5.13.something.

Upon doing so on start up I get the following error

[0.212205] ACPI BIOS Error (bug): Failure creating named object [\ADBG], AE_ALREADY_EXISTS (20210331/DSWLOAD2-326)
[0.212210] ACPI Error: AE_ALREADY_EXISTS, During name lookup/catalog (20210331/psobject-220)

If I chose the 5.4 kernel option in grub, the same error appears, but startup is able to continue as normal.

my inxi Fxxxr output is as follows

I have turned secure boot off. Someone suggested editing grub in nano and adding forcing the amd driver there, but this has had no effect.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I don't know if it's any help, but I see you have no drivers here:

Graphics:
Device-1: Intel vendor: Gigabyte driver: N/A bus ID: 00:02.0
chip ID: 8086:4680
Device-2: AMD vendor: Sapphire Limited driver: N/A bus ID: 03:00.0

I see that, but when I've run the mint driver update thingamabob, it tells me that all my drivers are up to date.

I've tried installing the amd drivers directly from the amd website, but mint tells me that they are already installed.

There are higher kernels, but I don't know if that's a solution here or not. Someone else might know.

Managed to get it solved, I did a time shift to before I updated the kernal, So no issues with start up.
The error still appears, but it doesn't affect start up.

I then stumbled upon this solution to the AMD gpu driver issues on another thread.

https://amdgpu-install.readthedocs.io/e ... cript.html

I just ran the script and now my gpu drivers are working!
