Install LM 20.2 on MacMini2,1

Post by peterka »

I failed installing LM 20.2c/m/x and LMDE4 32/64 on MacMini2,1, so I did a research.

what I found (among many others)
https://wiki.debian.org/MacMiniIntel#Macmini_2.2C1
this did boot and install successfully even from my external-DVD-USB-drive
( I actually used https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/dail ... etinst.iso ; see https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/dail ... ch/iso-cd/ )

The old internal "superdrive" DVD-drive does not read correctly from burned DVDs AND this image on a DVD did not boot from (my) external-DVD-USB-drive, so for my MM2,1 they did not work:
https://mattgadient.com/linux-dvd-image ... 06-models/

and more hints:

I am wondering which trick the debian guys are using to overcome the Apple boot lock for non-Apple-DVDs on non-"superdrives". THANK YOU VERY MUCH Debian guys, you prolonged the live a MiniMac2,1 in a very smooth way!

Install Linux Mint 20.2 cinnamon on MacMini2,1

Post by peterka »

finally I installed Linux Mint 20.2 cinnamon for a MacMini2,1 despite its defect internal DVD-SuperDrive.

1.) download the LM20.2c-image
2.) download isomacprog from https://mattgadient.com/linux-dvd-image ... 06-models/
3.) process the LM20.2c-image with isomacprog
4.) burn processed image to a DVD
5.) boot a second, newer Intel-MacMini from this DVD
6.) install LM20.2c to an external SSD/HDD, connected by USB
7.) mount SSD/HDD into MacMini2,1
With a SSD, its speed is OK.
