No boot option
Hi I just installed LM on a Dell laptop beside Win 10.
When I turn the computer on, it goes straight to Windows.
I followed the guide, went back into live version, opened a terminal and typed sudo efibootmgr.
It says EFI variables are not supported.
What can I do now to load LM without losing windows?

Re: No boot option
Hello rawmotion,
you have two disks, one with Windows and the second with Linux. Have you changed the boot order in Bios, so that the Linux disk is the first? I think, the bootloader grub is installed on the Linux disk, but you can find out with the following long command:

Re: No boot option
I let LM manage the install process. It looks like it installed LM on my small 32GB SSD.
I would rather have it on the same large drive where Windows is.
Is there a way to uninstall and start over?
Edit:
I have 2 disks
- 500gb with windows on it
- 32gb with linux on it
In BIOS, if I select the small one to boot first, it loads windows. If I select the big one, it loads Linux. — opposite of what I would expect.
This means it installed Linux on the small drive, but the bootloader on the large drive with Windows?
How do I fix this mess now?

Re: No boot option
Edit: You changed your post. In the first version you wrote, grub is installed on the LInux disk and you want it on the Windows disk. Apparently it is on the Windows disk, so let it in the first position of the boot order. Don't you see the grub menu? If you unsure with grub, show the output of the command above from your installed Linux Mint, where grub is installed
You can start your Linux with the boot menu. On Dell laptops you have to press F12, when the logo is displayed. Then choose your SSD with Linux. When you are in Linux, open a terminal. Install grub on the Windows disk as follows:

When you reboot, you should get the grub menu with booting to Linux as the first option and a choice for Windows. It is possible, that a Windows update overwrite it, so that you would have to do the procedure again.

Re: No boot option
Are you really sure?
You are booting legacy - there is only room for one bootloader on each drive. If you install grub to sda it will overwrite the windows bootloader currently there. You will still get a grub menu giving you the choice of mint or win and will be able to boot win, but with grub.
You are better off putting sdb at the top of your BIOS boot list.

Re: No boot option
Anyway. I finally got it working.
The next thing I did was go to the driver updater. It installed a new recommended GPU driver. Now, every time I load LM, I just get a black screen.
Glad I didn't get rid of Windows yet.

Re: No boot option
Hello rawmotion,
I have also a laptop with Intel & Nvidia graphics (a little bit older than yours) and had at the beginning the same problem. But thanks to this forum, I found a solution that works. Before I installed the nvidia-driver, I had to install nvidia-prime (not the applet, which do not really work on my laptop) in the terminal and after that, I installed the driver in the driver manager. Maybe this could work for you, too.
Uninstall the nvidia driver and reboot after that:
After reboot:
Driver installation in the driver manager and reboot.
