As above, I'll add to
fsck /dev/sda2
, use the -y
, it will look like this fsck /dev/sda2 -y
to answer yes to all prompts, and when it's through press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to reboot.I have a question for you, do you get many of the BusyBox initramfs? The reason I ask is, I get it quite often if Mint is not rebooted every 24hrs.

That seems to have me back up at least. Timeshift isn't working so I'll post a separate topic on that. @hapEcat this is the first time I have experienced this issue. I had a power outage while the machine was live, so I believe that was the cause.
Re: The Root File System Requires a Manual fsck [resolved]
You might want to make a note of
I first started running the command from a Live Mint USB, until I learned that the command could be run at the "BusyBox initramfs" prompt. There's something in my root partition gets corrupted that's causing it to happen to me on a regular basis.
fsck /dev/</> -y
, where the </>
is your root partition which in your case is sda2
, for if it's happened once it'll probably happen again. I've encountered the "BusyBox initramfs" so many times, the command is ingrained on me.I first started running the command from a Live Mint USB, until I learned that the command could be run at the "BusyBox initramfs" prompt. Hello hapEcatThere's something in my root partition gets corrupted that's causing it to happen to me on a regular basis.
You might want to start a separate topic for your issue.
However I can tell you that the same problem has been happening to a lot of people (including myself) since early 2021, even on fresh new installs of Mint, even on brand new hard drives that are in perfect condition. There is a strange bug in the file system of the kernel (coming from either Ubuntu or Debian) that slowly piles up file system errors over time (a few days usually). It also happens to a lot of Ubuntu users.
Anyway, let's not pollute this topic any further.
