20.3 Installation on Asus BR1100FKA [SOLVED]
Good day
I was gifted an Asus BR1100FKA notebook. When running a live session of 20.3 the mouse (cursor) remains in fixed position center screen. The touch pad is dead. Same when plugging in a usb mouse.
Does anyone know of a work around or do I throw away the notebook?
Thanks in advance...

You haven't given much info in which to work with.
1.Does it have windows installed?
2.Does the mouse and touch pad work in windows?
3.How old is the laptop.

Re: 20.3 Installation on Asus BR1100FKA
Sorry.
The unit is brand new out the box, with windows10 installed. All working perfectly, including mouse/touchpad etc.
It is one of those that you can flip the lid right back and use as a "tablet" with touchscreen. And yes, that all works as well.
I ran a live session of 20.3 and using TAB managed to do some basic navigation. There is sound, pictures, opens files, folders etc. Everything works, including network/internet. Just that the touchpad is dead, along with any usb mouse I plug in.
I moved to Linux about 6 years ago, and this is the first major problem I have run into on installation. Was hoping there may be a work around

Are you using the Linux Mint 20.3 "Una" - Cinnamon (Edge) ISO which has the 5.13 kernel?
If you are using MATE or Xfce then you would have to upgrade to 5.13 in Update Manager because only kernel 5.4 is available for those ISOs.

If the touch pad and a plug in mouse are dead how did you open folders and files? Something has to move the pointer, touchpad or plug in mouse.
How do you move the pointer to somewhere to check the internet?

This is the information I found for that laptop ASUS EDU LAPTOP (BR1100FKA).
The Support for ASUS-BR1100F indicates this has an ASUS Precision TouchPad Driver for Windows, but I can not tell from the description what it is.
Have you checked in the BIOS/UEFI to make sure there are no settings for turning off the touchpad?
Perhaps if you boot into Windows 10 you might be able to tell from Device Manager (or whatever it is called in Windows 10) what type of touchpad is being used.

Moderator note: Jay-Vee's issue can now be found here Touchpad not working on Lenovo Ideapad Slim 3 because they do not have an ASUS computer. Different hardware for a hardware related issues means one should create a new topic as per forum rules.

Thank you all for your input. I ran a live session with the Mint "Edge" ISO and that solved all the problems. Everything works perfectly. I guess we can mark this topic as solved?
I did attempt the installation and ended up bricking the device. The installer does not recognize the SD card. Ended up reloading Windows. One day, maybe...
