Re: Home page different from the one expected
What steps did you use to upgrade? It is not possible to directly upgrade from LM19.3 to LM20.3.

BTW: This page is named login screen. Nobody will know, what you mean with home page, confusion is programmed.
Re: Home page different from the one expected
FWIW, that's the Ubuntu login screen, except there should be an Ubuntu banner (with logo) towards the bottom of the screen.
Re:Login screen different from the one expected
Thank you for your message and help.

Re: Logic screen different from the one expected
Your system has 1 major version change in the history; it is likely, that your problem comes from this upgrade.
As this is a virtual machine I recommend to build a new one. Then you can copy all of the needed data (possibly the complete home) from the old to the new one. You can even run both machines side by side, an advantage, that no dual boot configuration can provide.

Re: Logic screen different from the one expected
Linux Mint uses LightDM, but it appears that is not installed. You are using GDM3. Whatever may have been done to remove LightDM may have also been what removed/changed your login screen.

Re: Login screen different from the one expected
You can check If lightdm is still installed (not removed), just run
About gdm3, most probably it was installed as dependency when installing another ubuntu package, maybe gnome/ubuntu desktop. Check desktop installed with
dpkg -l | grep "lightdm\|slick-greeter"
. If it is so run sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
and choose lightdm when asked to make it your default dm/login windowAbout gdm3, most probably it was installed as dependency when installing another ubuntu package, maybe gnome/ubuntu desktop. Check desktop installed with
ls -l /usr/share/xsessions/
. You can just remove gdm3 (apt remove gdm3
) or that desktop environment if any.

Re: Login screen different from the one expected
Leloup, please run aptitude why gdm3 in Terminal. This will tell us which packages depend on gdm3. For comparison, if you were to run aptitude why rsync, the response would be timeshift Depends rsync, because rsync is what Timeshift uses to copy files.
Re: Login screen different from the one expected
Code: Select all
$ aptitude why gmd3
Code: Select all
$ aptitude why rsync
Code: Select all
/usr/share/xsessions$ ls -l
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8667 août 21 2021 mate.desktop
According to you, from where, I must launch the command
Code: Select all
dpkg -l | grep "lightdm\|slick-greeter"

Re: Login screen different from the one expected
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
It fixes the problem.
Do you have any comments?
In the meantime, thank you for your helps.

Re: Login screen different from the one expected
This happens when writing codes, you'd better copy and paste codes on terminal.
As a graphic alternative you can use Synaptic Package Manager to find gdm3 and lightdm were installed and see dependencies (right-click on gdm3>Proprerties>Dependencies> also look on dependents.
it is not gmd3 but gdm3Leloup wrote: ⤴Sat Jul 02, 2022 3:03 amE: There is no package called "gmd3".Code: Select all

My guess would be something did not happen correctly when you upgraded in place from LM19.3 to LM20. No way of knowing at this point in time what might have happened.
