Installing Helena on a SATA drive SOLVED

Post by sportsbike »

Myself and others have had trouble installing Mint 8 on a SATA drive

Well I have found a solution that worked for me
Insert Mint 8 cd and start a live session
Launch Terminal (MENU, TERMINAL) and type sudo apt-get remove dmraid

When asked 'Do you want to continue' type y and click enter

Close Terminal and install Mint by clicking on the install icon on the deskop

I hope this helps

I wonder why I didn't have any problems?

That's a strange thing to have to do just to install.

There are reports on SATA difficulties with older (P4 era) MBs and BIOSes, ACHI settings not working etc. Ie. my Abit7 did not work, works fine with PATA.

So I will try the above (because I bought SATA drives... )
