(SOLVED) Linux Mint not appearing in boot menu on UEFI system

Post by witherlikeslinux »

I am aware that similar questions have been asked on this forum (and other sites) before, though none of the solutions these sites have offered have worked for me. As the title suggests, I have installed Linux Mint, but it isn't popping up in the boot menu. I have tried using grub-update and boot-repair. Secure boot is turned off, and there is no option to switch between UEFI/Legacy in my BIOS' settings. I am not worried about losing any data as I have backed all the files I need from the previous OS I was running on this laptop (Windows 10, which has been formatted).

Thank you in advance for any help.

Efibootmgr output looks good. Enter BIOs and in boot menu ubuntu should be the first entry.
If I have helped you solve a problem, please add [SOLVED] to your first post title, it helps other users looking for help.

The entry to boot Linux is there. Most motherboards come with the UEFI option to select "BBS priorities" (or something) for each bootable drive. Have you checked? When you detach your external drive, what drive / os your system boots?

I apologize, as I have forgotten to mention that I previously installed Ubuntu on this laptop before Windows 10, which may be why it appears on efibootmgr's output, though it is no longer on this laptop.

I tried booting it again with the "ubuntu" entry on the top of the list and the live CD disconnected, but got the same result as before: a screen telling me that it can't detect any bootable devices:

Android entry in UEFI... Fancy boot error screen.Cannot be a chromebook, right? Never had one. Have you installed Androidx86 or other android-emulation stuff which could alter your Linux installation?

It's an Acer Aspire ES1-132. You can find the rest of the specifications for this laptop on my first post in this topic. I did try dualbooting PrimeOS, an android emulator, with Ubuntu about a month or two ago but I gave up. I'm not sure why those entries are appearing in the boot list since neither OSes are present on my device.

Unfortunately, this did not help as well. While the setup utility of my laptop is exactly the same as the one mentioned in the topic you've linked (InsydeH2O Setup Utility Rev 5.0), the versions are different (v1.26). This may be the reason that a "register a new UEFI file as trusted" option did not appear in my BIOS after setting a supervisor password.
