Re: Linux mint won't boot after instalation
Please boot into the live environment from that installation thumb drive, and post your System Info ( ends up being the same as the results of inxi -Fxxxrz from a terminal window. ) using that command's method or open cinnamon menu, search for " system info" then upon selecting that, click the "Upload" button. give it a good 3 to 12 seconds..it should launch a firefox url that shows your inxi -Fxxxrz results.Varsima wrote: ⤴Fri Aug 05, 2022 8:45 pm Hello, I have laptop, Hp probook 6460b. i had installed linux mint before, it worked without any problems. after that i installed windows. now i tried to install mint again, i installed it but it doesn't boot. Highlight all of those results. copy, come back here. click that </> button.( press that spacebar twice as it will make it easier to aim your paste between the two . | quote| | quote| that show up. ( this makes it easier to scroll read your results and not take up a time of space on the webpage..
This is what that "" Before you post please read how to get help" in pink background and the link is blue font... miss. Step 5 ..is about. This will tell us much about your installation ( none of which is personally identifiable information) and save on much speculation. It's why this site's head moderators/management created that section above talking about how to get help.

Re: Linux mint won't boot after instalation
ok.
1. That part about
2. A. Did you select " something else" when you installed LM 21 during the install wizard?
B. Or did you select to " install along side Linux Mint.
3. Did you have to select the " compatibility mode" when you got just past your machine finish its P.O.S.T with that black background in which the top/first option is the regular Linux Mint installation?
Also when you finished the installation..do you remember seeing the message after selecting ( Restart Now) button of " Remove installation media then press enter to reboot" ?
If not..i'm almost willing to bet you accidentally pulled the installation thumb drive out too soon as your machine was in the powering down portion of the reboot. This CAN cause that message. I've used to encounter is often in LM 19 and older version days years ago and although ( unless you used a usb to sata cable adapter connected to a ssd you prepped as the installation drive to install LM with... which WILL - I confirmed this this last night with LM 21 beta - not show that message for me) the recent versions are supposed to have resolved this.... try this.
Boot from that installation thumb drive one more time. Select the regular ( not the compatibility mode), when you boot into that live desktop and double left click to launch that " install linux mint" icon..and go through the prompts.. when you reach it the part where it gives you many installation/partitioning options...select " Erase (whatever it says) and install Linux Mint"
- let's simplify this -
Don't select "something else" or " install along side"..just a fresh ..clean start. Then at the end of the install wizard where it gives the choices of " Restart now" or " Continue testing"....select to continue testing.
Then power that machine off using the cinnamon menu at bottom left, select the Light switch button and power it off..or via terminal command of ... shutdown now
Either way then you'll know beyond the shadow of a doubt when it's safe to unplug that install thumb drive. Unplug it, power the pc back on ( worst case you may need to revist your uefi/bios to select that Linux Mint 21 targeting-installed Seagate 160GB sata gen 2 ST9160412AS as the first boot device.
Now as long as that hdd isn't faulty/defect/has bad sectors...it should find and boot up Linux Mint 21.

Re: Linux mint won't boot after instalation
I am sorry for late answers. i installed normally, i erased everything and install mint. it restarted, i saw message "Please remove instalation media and press enter" i did that and it didn't boot. i had some progress, i enabled UEFI boot in bios, when i did that it was stuck at HP logo, i went in boot option and i selected EFI boot, there was option Ubuntu and selected that, linux mint turned on but everytime i restart, i have to go in EFI boot and select from there. i think i have to fix this from bios but i am not sure how. i have searched but didn't find fix yet. if you guys know anything about this. and i am not installing mint alongside the windows. i am only installing linux mint.

I'm wondering if you'll need to disable secure boot.

Re: Linux mint won't boot after instalation
There is no secure boot option in bios.
Re: Linux mint won't boot after instalation
With UEFI boot enabled, go into BIOS and look at the BIOS boot list, move the entry for 'ubuntu' to the top of the boot list. Don't know why efibootmgr is reporting so many entries for ubuntu?

I guess it should be said that TPM is Trusted Platform Module. Whatever that is.

TPM is required to be enabled so that winwoes11 will install.
Re: Linux mint won't boot after instalation
Yes, TPM. but when i enable it, Mint doesn't boot up. is it necessary to have TPM enabled?mikeflan wrote: ⤴Sat Aug 06, 2022 10:13 pm I guess it should be said that TPM is Trusted Platform Module. Whatever that is.

I believe once win has been installed it can be disabled and win will still boot.

Re: Linux mint won't boot after instalation
I have TPM enabled on my desktop and it runs fines with LM20.3. I had TPM enabled on my winwoes machine, so when I updated it to win11I disabled TPM and damn ...winwoes refused to boot, instead it thew up a msg saying that TPM was not enabled. So I removed the upgrade and went back to win10 and everything boots as it should.
Only use win10 for playing my games, nothing else. Everything I now do I use LM.
