Stuck on boot screen

Post by AcceptableMonitor8 »

Last night I was using Linux Mint as usual and today after I decided to power on my PC, the screen just stays on the rotating boot logo. Pressing F1-F12 displays

Code: Select all

 clean, ######/##### files, ########/###### blocks
Luckily I made a timeshift backup yesterday but I don't know how to restore it from the current state

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Boot the live system, run Timeshift from the menu, in Timeshift point to the partition, where the snapshots are stored, than do the restore.

I tried that but in the end I get a Restore Completed with Errors.
After i try booting up the system again, I'm just getting a GNU Grub terminal and nothing else.

I should also point out that i'm running a dual boot of Linux Mint and Windows 10 on 2 seperate SSDs

If I were you I would disable faststartup in windows even though you shouldn't have to.
You can always enable it again.

Boot into windows and disable faststartup:

If you have a desktop system try disconnecting one drive, then the other. Will each boot on its own?

I disabled fast startup and now after i wait for Linux to boot up during its usual loop, it throws out a BusyBox v1.30.1 built-in shell after some time as well as

Code: Select all

/dev/nvme0n1p1: recovering journal
alongside the the line i mentioned in the original post

Use a different Timeshift snapshot.

Then I suggest to do a new install. Before you do this backup all user data, if there is any. You can do this from the live system.

When I try to open the M.2 drive from the live boot, it takes a long time before i get an error message and after that I can no longer see it in the menu.
