Mint 21 EFI will not boot "Out of memory"

Post by lvlchg »

I encountered a strange issue while upgrading to Mint 21 Cinnamon. After the upgrade with the tool, the computer would halt boot after POST with a "out of memory" message.

I figured I would do a clean reinstall instead, but the issue persisted. Another strange thing is that on my last boot, the GRUB menu popped up, and I believe its not supposed to do that during EFI boot. Anyway I selected the superseded 5.15.0-41 kernel instead of the default 5.15.0-46 kernel in the GRUB menu, and the system booted.

I'm at a loss whats going on here, could anyone please point me in the right direction to get this resolved?

It is apparently a bug that carried over from Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1970402
