[solved] After new installation no access to BIOS
Hi community,
i installed Mint 21 on brand new hardware as a Linux beginner. Runs very good. Just one problem : I can´t load my BIOS anymore with "del" or any Key. It automatically loads the system.
I disabled the secure boot option in the BIOS beforehand.
Any suggestions?
I don´t want to use the QFLASH method ( if it would help in the first place).

Re: After new installation no access to BIOS
Make/model of computer?
I would try rebooting and just continuously tapping F1 or whatever.

please post the contents of what
sudo efibootmgr
dumps on screen if you type that in terminal.I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

Re: After new installation no access to BIOS
nice mobo. I suppose you could always try to clear the CMOS...

Re: After new installation no access to BIOS
I was thinking about to try a less brute force method, meaning, inserting a Stick with BIOS F14 in the assigned Port, and then just pressing the qflash button.
But maybe there is a more elegant solution out there ...

Re: After new installation no access to BIOS
try it with "enter" or "esc"

Re: After new installation no access to BIOS
flashing the BIOS? "less brute force"? Oh I see - forces boot to stick if boot order is set right... F12 (some keyboards need Fn button pressed while press F button..

Re: After new installation no access to BIOS
That's not seeing EFI Settings either then, usually an entry is added to the end of the list for it. If you run the live media you installed with, load the boot repair tool and see if that picks it up when it reconfigures the boot files. Don't bother with the advanced mode, use the standard automatic issue detection script.
There is another possible cause the keyboard shortcut to enter BIOS fails to work, you had fast boot set in BIOS previously and it's on Ultra. This disables USB device input during post. The only way to get around that is shutdown, reset CMOS by disconnecting the PC from the electric supply and pulling the CMOS battery out for at least a minute (switching off the PSU at the rear would suffice if a switch is present)

Re: After new installation no access to BIOS
That would reset BIOS settings anyway

Re: After new installation no access to BIOS
I try the last option, because i set the it to Ultra. Is this an error? But would you recommend to use the qflash method, so i can install the new BIOS F15 right awayantikythera wrote: ⤴Fri Aug 19, 2022 12:52 pm That's not seeing EFI Settings either then, usually an entry is added to the end of the list for it. Re: After new installation no access to BIOS
It's a mistake if you want control of the PC before it gets to the desktop login.
I haven't used Q-Flash but it is safer to do that method than flashing from a running windows install where other programs can interfere. The problem with UEFI flashing that I have found to be common across all vendors is that when you flash the update they often get reset to factory defaults. So you lose any tweaked settings for CPU features, RAM Speed, Fan control, port states etc. I have written all the changes down from mine so I can copy them back fairly easily.
I flash my MSI systems from USB stick too. They are a bit picky about the drive though, I have two formatted with FAT32 and they will only detect the 16GB drive, not the 64GB one.
