strange USB boot problems

Postby Greenlander » Thu Dec 31, 2009 3:21 pm

Hello, it's my first time with Mint, and I'm still sort of a noob to linux. I tried searching the forums but couldn't find a similar problem. I'm running a UNR / Win XP dual boot, and I want to install Mint (Felicia) into my ubuntu partition. I made a LiveUSB with Unetbootin, but none of the boot options in the grub/unetbootin menu work. Trying to run Mint normally stalls at the progress bar; a memory test tells me "Cannot load a ramdisk with an old kernel image;" and trying to boot normally stalls out with the message "Gave up waiting for root device" and drops to a shell that says "(initramfs)"

Compatibility mode stalls out and says:

Code: Select all

wl: module license 'MIXED/Proprietary' taints kernel
wl: 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A Link [LNKA] -> GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ 11

I'm not sure what module it's talking about, and what it loads before it stalls isn't the same every time

here's lsusb too, but my ubuntu netbook remix liveusb didn't have this problem, so I don't think it's a usb issue. should I copy anything from my "lspci -vvnn" read-out?

Code: Select all

I'm going to try making a liveusb on windows, so I'll reply once I see how that goes
