Linux Mint 21.1 boot fails (3F0) on HP probook 4730s <SOLVED>

I was running 19.3 for over 3 years with no problems on this PC.
I decided to do a clean install of 21.1 to move to latest software

all iso files were verified before USB stick creation

The HP support documents relate to windows, but still I tried to return bios to factory defaults no difference

I tried to use the 20.3 version also tried to go back to 19.3 the same 3F0 error

i have reviewed many postings relating to boot issues
That why I tried going to 20.3 to then upgrade to 21.1

But I do not understand most of the postings.

Under F10 on boot up I had to set the UEFI boot option.
This shows up a warning message which you have to ignore.

Think I needed to do a bit more research before posting, but hope this helps others
