Run Linux Mint and Mandriva as dual-boot - How ?= Solved

Post by Scandi-Navian »

Hey there Linux Mint Forum

I would like to ask if it is possible to run Linux Mint and Mandriva 2010 as dual boot?

In what order shall the systems be installed?

Have a formatted PC, where nothing yet is installed.

Greetings

Grub 2 is unable to launch mandriva, so you should install it as a traditional grub..

Maybe you also need this.. 8)

DRIVABOOT = Mandrivan käynnistys-CD + Mint 9 + Ubuntu 10.04 + Ubuntu 9.04 + USB_modeswitch-paketteja + SmartBootManager + ohjeita

Of course. Install Mandriva and then Mint.

You only need one swap partition for both.

Mint will find Mandriva and add it to the boot menu.

If it does not you can run the update grub command from the Mint terminal.

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub

Grub2 can boot anything that grub or LILO can boot.

Grub2 has no problem booting any of my Linux distros, including Slackware,
Debian, Mint, Sidux, Mandriva and many others.

In my computer grub2 causes the kernel panic to Mandriva and PClinuxOS, so ...

Hi again oobetimer and Mick55

I installed Mandriva first and then Mint.

But when I started again Mandriva was not present.
:(
It did help with the Driva Boot - Great !
:D
Don´t know if I did anything wrong, as I am quite new with Linux -
But now it function well. - Both systems.

Thank you very much

Mandriva uses grub legacy, and although Mint may not add a Mandriva entry during the install,
it can be forced to find Mandriva by running the update grub command.

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
Glad you got it working. :)
