Converting an Ubuntu installation into Mint

Post by empusa »

Is there an easy way of converting an existing Ubuntu installation to Mint?

You may ask why I would want to do this? Why not just do a fresh install of Mint?

My reason is as follows:
I have a small 7 inch touchpad device called a Joggler. The only distro of Linux that currently works well on it is a modified version of Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Everything seems to work fine on it.
The only problem is I loath Ubuntu Netbook Remix and would like to install Mint. If I do a fresh install of Mint I will then have to spend hours fixing hardware issues that have already been fixed on the Ubuntu installation..

Would it be possible to just add the Mint repositories to the Ubuntu ones and then just install a few bits and pieces to convert to Mint.

If this can be done, what would I need to do to switch over to the Mint Gnome desktop and get rid of the loathsome UNR one?

Pete
