Can't boot/install Celena on Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop

Postby manu » Fri Sep 21, 2007 12:17 pm

When I try to boot from the Live-CD I get the following error:

(EE) VESA(0): No matching modes
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
Fatal error:
no screen found.

I tried:

F6 break=bottom
-> BusyBox

F6 break=top
-> BusyBox

F6 break=button
-> Commandline (startx displays the same error as above)

I also tried dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg but without success.

I have a ATI X1400 Mobility and a 1280x800 Screen.
Ubuntu 7.04 works fine.

Can someone help me??

Have you tried "Safe graphics mode"?
This uses the "vesa" driver and some nvidia and ati card has to rely on vesa temporarily until you install the right driver.
This could help even if the error is about vesa
You could also try to follow the wiki ... ur_Live_CD
but of course use button :)
Another solution is to press F3 (I think) at boot and write in a "more normal" resolution 1024x768
As soon as you manage to get the live CD working and then install it's time to install the right driver (can be a bit tricky with ATI until they've come out with the new drivers) and get the right resolution
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Return to “Installation & Boot”
