Blank Screen during boot of Live CD

Post by cwanime123 »

Whenever I try to boot LM 9 CD to try and install it, I get a black screen before I get to the desktop...I have seen previous posts on similar problems but the "nomodeset" trick doesn't seem to work. The graphics are NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I was working on a HP laptop DV6000 I think and it would not boot to the deskiop. I had to hook up and external monitor on it so I could install it and the install the NVida drivers now it fine. Just a thought

you should type nomodeset like this on the grub options

Code: Select all

ro nomodeset
u will see the diferent cuz the verboose mode will be on orange letters

after that it should work just fine

after instalation u might have the same problem for that u have to edit the default grub file and se it
on the cmd line

nomodeset update-grub and u should be fine

Thanks, that command seemed to work when I try to boot the CD. I have one other problem though, after I installed LM 9 I cannot access the GRUB boot menu, it just goes straight to the black screen again, so therefore I cannot even boot the system on the hard drive to permanently change the GRUB file. Is there anyway around this?

You can boot from the live CD and use the live system to fix the Mint system on the disk with chroot:

The question is what to fix, I would start with "sudo update-grub" but just in case it was a installation problem you could try it again.
