Cassandra --> Celena

Postby datatek » Wed Oct 24, 2007 6:38 am

I have a feeling that there must be a very detailed topic on this somewhere here, but I did not see it, so please forgive the possible repeat.

I am, actually entirely happy with Cassandra, but in linux, the longer you wait before you update, the more destructive it becomes, and since people are now speaking of Daryna (the previous edition names were wonderful, why now "Daryna"?), I decided I had better get to it.

So, can I "apt-get dist-upgrade"? I have a feeling this will just get me Ubuntu 7.10.

What is the prescribed method? What happens if I burn a celena copy and just pop it in my computer? Will it safely overwrite my Cassandra?

P.S. Mint is the best distro out there. That is all.

Cassandra and Celena are the same distro (Ubuntu Feisty/7.04). There is no need to upgrade unless you want the new artwork. Celena is just Cassandra with some things removed (like Beagle and the Ubuntu Auto Update Manager) and a few new things (which can be added to Cassandra).

If you're happy with Cassandra I say stick with it. Daryna will be a major upgrade since it is based on the next Ubuntu (Gutsy/7.10). Celena is not really an upgrade since it's the same base distro.

What if I upgrade to new Ubuntu from Cassandra?

Update manager offers and upgrade to Ubuntu 7.10. Would that be a good thing to do?

Update manager offers and upgrade to Ubuntu 7.10.
A very good thing to do if you want to completely mess up your Cassandra :)
In other words no no no
That's why we removed it in Celena and developed our own update manager
