Problem with installing LinuxMint 4.0 (ATI issue)

Postby andbia » Sat Nov 17, 2007 6:28 am

Hi im pretty new to linux and mint in general. I have this problem with the new version of mint that didn't exist in the older ones.

When trying to install the liveCD makes it all the way to the desktop displaying the wallpaper and an empty panel and then it just stops spinning. Reading the "release notes" this is an known issue:

On some hardware with ATI/nVidia cards: If the liveCD boots all the way to Gnome but hangs and just shows the mouse pointer and eventually the wallpaper, restart the liveCD, press F6 and change the options "quiet splash --" with "nosplash noapic noacpi --"

The problem is that it wont work either, it starts counting up a lot of things but eventually the computer hangs after around 5seconds. I tried most things but the computer is not responding, during this time the computer leds flashes until you are forced to shut the computer down with the power button.

I have an dell 6400 with an ATI x1400 mobility radeon, if thats any help.

Thanks in advance :)

Could you tell us a bit more about your computer - unfortunately Dell and others may have completely different computers with the same model number....
I think what you did should help....

Don't really know what exact info you want, but...

Dell 6400 Inspiron:
Core Duo processor 2ghz
1GB DDR
ATI Mobility Radeon x1400
Broadcom 440x10/100
Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG

Appreciate you taking the time to help :)

I actually got it to work now!

After testing several things it seems that what hang my computer was "noapic" but changing it to "nolapic" instead seem to worked :)

So if you have the same problems i did change the options "quiet splash --" with "nosplash nolapic noacpi --" and hopefully it will work :)
