resize partition of linuxmint hard drive

Post by Blazer »

i installed mint 11 to a 320 gb hd, i would like to have mint installed to 100 gb and use the remaining space 220 gb for storage of backups, files and folders from another ntfs hd, is it possible to shrink the mint installation to 100 gb safely ?

new to the linux operating system !

Sure thing, gparted will allow you to (more or less) safely resize that partition. It's fairly straightforward to install and use, say though if you get stuck on any specific issues. I'd still make a backup of any personal data first but it's rare that things go wrong.

gparted installed into mint i could not make the needed changes, i did however boot the live gparted disk and managed to resize the partition and create a new 'Mint Storage' partition, so, much thanks for the info.
