Hello everyone. I'm not new to Linux. I do know my way around somewhat. I have used a USB installer witch I got from

http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal- ... -as-1-2-3/

I have put the DVD ISO I got onto the flash drive with the program. The closest I've gotten it to boot was the menu. I.E.

Boot Linux Mint
Linux Mint (Compatability Mode)
Memory Test
Boot from Hard Disk

If I select anything other than memtest. My system just reboots. I have a custom built Gaming PC built by me. My specs are as follows.

AMD Phenom ii x4 BE
4GB DDR3
ATI 5770 Vapor-X
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
250GB SATA HDD

May be you should do a clean format with fat32 to the stick.
then re-make bootable USB from iso file.

What did you download from?
I was having trouble with the HTTP mirrors.
Downloaded the Torrent version and it works just fine on unetbootin.

Keeping mind this is the 64bit version.

That was my solution...

I have reformatted my drive. Then i tried the 64 bit CD. All i'm getting are kernel panics every time I try to boot linux mint off of the USB drive. I'm on windows 7 right now.

Well, I got the CD version to work. But I keep getting a kernel panic it gives me the error "kernel panic: unable to mount root fs on unknown block(1,0).

Same problem as above getting kernel panics. One time I did get in but then when I tired to install it popped up a window with some installation error straight away.

I too used unetbootin to make the usb stick and I have a ati card + gigabyte motherboard like the OP.

Did you try to boot with the same USB on another computer? To rule out that is a hardware issue, or the program you're using to make the bootable USB. My coworker had the same issue, and I loaned the USB I made, on Mint 11, and he could start the live session, writting "live" at boot prompt.

I too had this problem, using a USB stick that I recently used to install fedora16 live.

To make the USB stick bootable I used gparted to create a cylinder aligned partition on the flash drive, then used unetbootin to "burn" an already downloaded copy of the mint12 iso (DVD version) to it.

4 hours or so after install to hard drive It seems stable.
YMMV, HTH.

I found a website that claims to have a solution for this problem. I am about to try it out...
