Asking for a backport

Postby joril » Fri May 19, 2017 10:56 am

Hi everyone!

Is there an official way to ask for a backport? (to Mint 17.3 in my case)

if you need parts of LM 17.3, then you may be better off, in just installing that.

as you won't get any backports for LM18x.

Well I'm thinking of this issue right now :) But the question could be of general interest... I'm already on Mint 17.3 and I'd like to know if there's a recommended way to ask for a backport.

Thanks for your time!

If you are asking about adding "backports" to your sources, open /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list in your text editor

Code: Select all

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list

Add "backport" to the mint line:
deb http://mirrors.usinternet.com/mint/packages rosa main upstream import backport
Add an extra line for the ubuntu backports:
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty-backports main restricted universe multiverse
Mint 18.1 Cinnamon, Quad core AMD A8-3870 with Radeon HD Graphics 6550D, 8GB DDR3, Ralink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI
Microsoft-free environment since 1996

Linux Linx 2017

Why not just upgrade to Mint 18?

Because that would mean reinstalling every workstation we have :) Besides, Mint 17 is a "Long Term Support" release
