Chrome Won't Open!!

Postby mngmrv » Wed Sep 13, 2017 9:43 am

18.1 Cinnamon (I love it)

Updated Chrome to v 61.03 yesterday (it was in the update manager)......and this morning it won't open. Nothing. Even on restart.

Thanks for your help.

try to rename google-chrome directory in your own /home/.config

Code: Select all

mv .config/google-chrome .config/google-chrome-old
and then restart google chrome from menù
Sorry for my English, is not my language

When you ask for support, put the output of inxi -Fxz

in that directory there are the settings of google-chrome , renaming that directory reset the configuration to zero.

open the terminal and copy/paste the code, or search manually the directory and rename to google-chrome-old

.config it a hide directory reveal hide files with ctrl+h in the file manager.

I appreciate it, but I'm a little scared and still not sure what we're doing. I don't want to lose anything. Safer to just uninstall and reinstall Chrome???

'Couldn't just be me. Others must also be having the same problem. ?????

if the problem is in the program settings, removing and reinstalling an application without renaming or removing its settings directory does not normally have effect, because the reinstalled program reloads the configurations from the old remaining directory.

test that I told you, if the cause was not that, just delete the new directory that creates the program and rename the old one from google-chrome-old in google-chrome

Could others weigh in on this, before I do it?

YES!!
However, updates should always be made, to prevent vulnerabilities and malfunctions, as in this case. Mark the 3D as [Solved]
