[SOLVED] Firewall configuration tool won't open

Post by brideoflinux » Sat Feb 24, 2018 2:18 am

I just installed Mint Xfce 18.3 on a Dell Latitude and I'm having trouble with the firewall configuration tool. When I try to open it the password prompt opens, but the firewall configuration GUI is missing in action. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling gufw, but I still get the same results. Any ideas anyone?

Hello brideoflinux and Welcome to Linux Mint Forums,
Try opening in a terminal with this command

Code: Select all

gksudo gufw
if that does not work post any error messages you get here.

Thanks kc1di ! Worked like a charm! And you also taught me a new command -- was unfamiliar with gksudo and had to look it up. I'd tried opening in the command line using sudo, but that gave the same results as trying to open from the menu. Better news is that it now opens through the menu. Again, thanks for your help. I love happy endings!

Be careful that you don't use sudo where gksudo is the right tool to use:
