Thunderbird Reverses System Setting for 2-Finger Scroll

Post by klawncare1239 » Wed Sep 04, 2019 1:22 pm

I've asked this on the Thunderbird forums and I've searched Google and Linux Mint forums for an answer to this question, but none really seem to match my issue.

I am running Linux Mint 19.2 on an HP Envy x360 laptop. Basically, everything is working the way I want it to, except for two-finger scrolling.

It's "working", but, I have an issue. No matter what I do, Thunderbird is implementing two-finger scrolling in the opposite direction of the rest of my system.

If I disable "reverse scrolling", Thunderbird enables it. If I enable it, Thunderbird disables it.

The rest of the system seems to be properly reading the setting, but Thunderbird, for some reason, is reading it reversed. How do I fix it? No assistance has yet been forthcoming on the Thunderbird forum.

Go to mouse and touchpad settings and check the setting there.

I don't think you understand.

I AM modifying the settings in my touchpad settings, and, whenever I enable or disable the reverse/natural scrolling option, the direction of scrolling DOES change. However, Thunderbird will always implement the change in the opposite of the rest of the system.

So, ALL programs and other dialogues and such will adhere to the settings that I implement in the touchpad settings area for reverse/natural scrolling. Thunderbird chooses to do exactly the opposite, no matter which setting I choose. It DOES "reverse" it's function, when I change the setting, it simply reverses it to the INVERSE of the rest of my system.

I have a laptop and my email program is thunderbird, and I have never had that problem occur. Doing a google search I have found other people with exactly the same problem using your brand name laptop, so it maybe a thing that HP have instilled. I have used thunderbird ever since it first appeared on the scene, and yes as like all software it to does have bugs, but they are quickly fixed.
I can't reproduce your fault on my laptop or the missus laptop and not on our tablets, which leads back to HP. Other than that I'm unable to help anymore.

Thank you. That's a bit more than I was able to find, since I couldn't specifically find reports of other users having this exact problem with Thunderbird. I suppose, to some degree, it helps to know that it's not just us and that it seems to be related to our particular laptop. Unfortunately, that doesn't help us solve the problem, I don't think.

Thanks for your time.

Not a problem mate. I'm just sorry I couldn't help you more.
Good luck anyway.
