WPS Office suite

Post by ChrisC »

I have recently upgraded to Mint 19.3 (Mate) from Mint 17 and, finding that the version of LibreOffice included is inferior in many respects to the earlier edition that I had been using, I would like to try the WPS Office suite. Unfortunately, when I try to install it using the Software Manager I get an error message as follows:

Error resolving wdll.pctg.cache.wpscdn.com Name or server not known

I have also tried to download the .deb package from the WPS website but without success. Can anyone explain the problem and/or suggest a solution?

what error, if any, was there, when using that *.DEB file that you downloaded,
- from their web site ?.

There was no error message from the website as such - it simply sits there doing nothing (i.e not downloading). I have not tried to contact the company yet as I would much prefer to install it via the Software Manager if possible.

I have tried using the Chromium browser (I was using Firefox previously) and got the following message (which does not look promising):

This site can’t be reachedwdl1.pcfg.cache.wpscdn.com’s server IP address could not be found.
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN

it's why I've got a couple of PCs .. so I'm able to switch machines & browsers.

you will have to go further sideways - - different machine / browser / ISP even ..
& then see what combination will work, for your location.

the file wps-office_11.1.0.9080.XA_amd64.deb - -- works here
:?

It looks like it might have been a problem connected with my VPN. Not only was it possible to download the .deb file on a laptop but when I shut down the VPN connection on the desktop machine I was able to install it using the Software Manager.
