You haven't said what usb device your are using flash drive, external hd....
With the device inserted, start terminal and copy & paste the following command and post the results back here in between the code display brackets

It does not matter what type of device. All usb2 devices return the error when inserted in a usb3 port. usb3 devices are recognized in the usb3 port.
In this example if I insert the mouse dongle id-ed below in the usb3 port it throws the exception.
