Open hyperlink with extern programm in libreoffice [SOLVED]

Post by OliverFuchs66 »

Hallo,
I have the following problem. I am using .pdf files as books. But the normal pdf-viewer from Linux Mint has no mark-function.
So I installed an pdf-Editor with this function. No I am using the office writer to coordinate which books I am reading just now.
So I am making hyperlinks to the book-.pdf 's. But the office writer starts normally the normal pfd client with no mark-function.
How can I change this to my pdf-Editor.
thanks
kind regards
Oliver Fuchs

Please show your Linux version, I assume you do NOT want to change the default application for PDF files.
And to understand you better:
Is it right that you have created a LO document using LO writer, that contains a list of your PDF-Books as hyperlinks?
In other words: you have created a list of content for your books folder?

One suggestion: As you are from Vienna, you could also ask this LO forum: https://www.libreoffice-forum.de because it is about handling certain hyperlinks created within LO.

If you don't find a first grade solution, you could install Okular and make it default instead of XReader. Because Okular provides marking text in pdf files.
It comes from KDE environment. However, I used it successfully for years in Ubuntu and Mint Cinnamon.

Congrats!
If you only want to make annotations in the PDFs, but no real editing like changing the text or inserting an image, I actually find Okular more suitable than Master PDF Editor.
Okular has a more pleasant interface and more intuitive operation, I think.
Also, Master PDF Editor is not ideal as a standard reader. In Windows I use PDF XChange Editor, which is very suitable for all purposes. Unfortunately it doesn't work without Wine in Linux.
Otherwise there is Foxit Reader. But I haven't used it for a long time. It would be to check whether he brings the desired functions too.

Hi,
I tried the Okular reader. But as I am reading books I need to mark and remark text.
This I have not found in the Okular reader.

You may look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgF0R4xZh4U. It isn't really a tutorial, but you'll see mark text is implemented.
As you are Austrian you may prefer a german tutorial provided by ubuntuusers.de: https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Okular/
Enjoy!

For other visitors of this topic there is another english tutorial here: https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/oku ... files.html
