suddenly unable to access duckduckgo or youtube

Post by ntprather »

I've no idea what changed. This evening when I booted up the system I was unable to connect to either duckduckgo or youtube. This occurs in Brave, Chrome, and Firefox. It only occurs on my LinuxMint machine, Android and Windows machines are connecting fine.

There is no firewall setup, rather I've never changed the default setting (whatever it is).
All the other sites I've tried work fine. It seems limited to those sites.

Thank you for any insight.

Yes, I tried rebooting.

FWIW, no problem here, so it's probably something with your system. You tried reboot, right?

ntPrather....

Please post your system info. Step 5 of how to get help ( that is surrounded in pink...impossible to miss) explains the terminal way on how to do this.

Guy way = windows logo button on your keyboard, " system report" without quotes, click " System information" button in upper left, " Copy" button in bottom right. come back here. </> button , then hold Ctrl and press v to paste. click submit ( this makes it easier to scroll-read your info and it not take up much webpage spaces).

--- often such system info saves much time wasting guessing for everyone . That's why this site's management created that section in Pink " forum rules" Before you post.. please read.. and then that " how to get help ' link.

1. s it only duckduckgo and youtube sites that don't launch? OR all sites ( meaning are you messaging us from a phone or from that same Linux Mint PC as well ? )

2. Do you create regular Timeshift Snapshots? If so, try restoring to the most recent one ( if it was days or a few weeks ago even) to see if the problem is then solved. If so, then that tells me that chances are either.

A. You messed with something you didn't mean to
or
B. An Update of some sort changed something else

3. ..side note curiosity= When you launch the Update Manager, and click Refresh..do you get any error messages? If so..what are those messages?

Thanks for the advice on system info. I've added it to the original post.

No Timeshift, it's a new install so I haven't run one yet.

Update Manager gives no error messages.

The laptop which has Elementary OS loads those sites without issue.

I trust this means more to you than me:

This was Google Chrome, opening in existing window;

Code: Select all

You can try:

Code: Select all

sudo sysctl dev.i915.perf_stream_paranoid=0
If it works, it might only be temporary though.

I'll try again, of course, but this is my first result: sysctl: cannot stat /proc/sys/dev/i915perf_stream_paranoid: No such file or directory

Second attempt ran but did not work.
