[SOLVED] Wine and 3D acceleration

Post by Yoshi2889 »

I'm not entirely sure where I should post this, so forgive me if it's in the wrong section :)

I recently installed Mint on my laptop because Windows suffered from BSODs. Mint is awesome, and solved all my problems :)

I started fiddling around with it, and installed Wine. Installed Steam via Winetricks, all good. I also installed a game called "Bejeweled 3", which some of you may know. It provides 3D acceleration.

Mkay, played a bit, found that it was disabled. So I tried enabling it, game restarted (restart was required), found it disabled again.

I tried to install DirectX (9, 10 and 11) from the Winetricks. No change, kept disabling itself.
Set emulation to Windows 7 from XP, same issue.

Here are some specifications about my laptop:
Model: ASUS X53E-SX1403v
CPU: Intel Core i5 2450M (2.5 GHz)
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000
RAM: 4 GB
Running Mint 13 Cinnamon, 64-bit, installed through the Windows installer.

EDIT: Here are the details from the inxi tool:

Thanks!

Re: Wine and 3D acceleration

According to http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=23616 this game works fine. Which version of wine did you install as it might be worth trying a different version? If not the wine forums may be a better option.
[Edit] your original post and add [SOLVED] once your question is resolved.

I installed the one from the Software Manager, which is version 1.4-0ubuntu4 (so 1.4).
I'll search the Wine forums, too.

Thanks for your reply :)

EDIT: I checked my configuration, everything was hardware-accelerated. Nothing wrong with that.
Installed some more demo's via Steam (PopCap games, too). Hardware acceleration worked in all of them. Maybe also worth mentioning that I installed this via Steam, I'll try the PopCap demo in a moment. If that does work, I'll just bug Valve about it, lol.
EDIT2: Awesome, that doesn't work at all. I'll just try the following then.
So it's just Bejeweled 3 acting up. Maybe I'll force it to use hardware acceleration and try it that way, I dunno.

Thanks for the help anyway!
