LM13 Cin. controlling Spotify Linux Preview

Post by tcc » Fri Jul 13, 2012 3:59 pm

Hi all,

I am running LM13 Cinnamon, and I would like to control Spotify Linux Preview through my Volume applet, much like one can control Banshee through the volume applet.

Is this possible?

Thanks,
Tcc

The following should work

1. (optional) Make a backup of your existing sound applet, just in case

Code: Select all

cd /usr/share/cinnamon/applets/sound@cinnamon.org/
sudo cp applet.js applet.js.backup
2. Open the applet.js file in your preferred text editor e.g.

Code: Select all

sudo gedit /usr/share/cinnamon/applets/sound@cinnamon.org/applet.js
3. Locate the lines "let compatible_players =" and "let support_seek =". They should look something like

Code: Select all

let compatible_players = [ "clementine", "mpd", "exaile", "banshee", "rhythmbox", "rhythmbox3", "pragha", "quodlibet", "guayadeque", "amarok", "googlemusicframe", "xbmc", "xnoise", "gmusicbrowser"];
let support_seek = [ "clementine", "banshee", "rhythmbox", "rhythmbox3", "quodlibet", "amarok", "xnoise", "gmusicbrowser"];
4. Add spotify onto the end of these lines, so they look like

Code: Select all

let compatible_players = [ "clementine", "mpd", "exaile", "banshee", "rhythmbox", "rhythmbox3", "pragha", "quodlibet", "guayadeque", "amarok", "googlemusicframe", "xbmc", "xnoise", "gmusicbrowser", "spotify" ];
let support_seek = [ "clementine", "banshee", "rhythmbox", "rhythmbox3", "quodlibet", "amarok", "xnoise", "gmusicbrowser", "spotify" ];
5. Save the file and restart Cinnamon. You should now have an entry for spotify in the sound applet and be able to control it from there. There are some bugs, for example it will always show the current time for a song as 0:00, but otherwise it works pretty well
