32 bit packages for 64 bit distro

Post by muninn »

Sincerest apologies if this was ansered elsewhere, my searches have turned up empty...

Is it possible with linux mint to install 32 bit packages for compatibility reasons with the 64 bit release? In Arch there is a 'multilib' repository that allows this, but I can't find anything similar for LM.

Thanks

what you are looking for is probably debian's multi-arch support - which spilled over ubuntu, so should be in Mint.
hopefully (i.e. if it's working well, easy enough, without bugs and without corrupting the package management by mistake) it's a clean and simple way to manage what you want to be doing.

remember that it's possible as well to make a custom chroot 32 bit even in a 64 bit installation and you can install 32 bit apps in there. That obviously gives no compatibility issues of sort.
