How to install a 'run' file?

Post by rado84 » Sun Aug 19, 2012 10:59 am

I'm trying to install my video card drivers which are set in a file with extension 'run'. I've set it to be able to run as a program, opened it as admin and yet it doesn't want to run. Puma says something about charsets and the bottom line is it won't start the file.

Code: Select all

rado@rado-desktop ~ $ inxi -Gx
Graphics: Card: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Juniper XT [AMD Radeon HD 6000 Series] bus-ID: 04:00.0
           X.Org: 1.11.3 drivers: ati,radeon (unloaded: vesa,fbdev) Resolution: 1366x768@59.8hz
           GLX Renderer: Gallium 0.4 on AMD JUNIPER GLX Version: 2.1 Mesa 8.0.2 Direct Rendering: Yes
Apparently it has some kind of basic drivers because the system fonts look too large and thus I know there are not specific custom drivers.

1. Open terminal and go to the run-file folder cd /path_to/run_package
2. Install a run package using command sh package.run

If you need to be root use sudo sh ......

Edit: i see you got it sorted already 8)

yeahh, as you can see from that output you are using Gallium (the open-source driver) and not the amd drivers;
as i said before: have you tried the additional drivers?
