Mint 13 Cinnamon -nautilus problem

Post by dholz »

Can't seem to fiure out why I have a spinning cursor everytime nautilus-(file manager) is opened for a good 15-20 seconds. The app opens quick but what is it loading? I've tried dpkg reconfigure, a few other options, disabled disk failing warning..... unable to figure this one out. Cant remember but I think it started with last update. Using Seagate Momentus SATA 7200rpm-hd, here's a quick nautilus stat:

Code: Select all

Package: nautilus
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
Section: gnome
Installed-Size: 2397
Maintainer: Ubuntu Desktop Team <ubuntu-desktop@lists.ubuntu.com>

Version: 1:3.4.2-0ubuntu4
Replaces: nautilus-data (<< 1:3.2.1-2ubuntu1), nautilus-sendto

Breaks: gnome-bluetooth (<< 3.0), gnome-session (<< 2.28), gnome-volume-manager (<< 2.24), nautilus-sendto-empathy (<< 3.0), rhythmbox (<< 0.12)
Conffiles:
 /etc/xdg/autostart/nautilus-autostart.desktop 132571316e477d7e4a822a6eb985102a
may seem trivial but quite annoying

thanks in advance for any input

Though it's not an ideal solution, I pinpointed this problem to having "Have the file manager handle the desktop" on. So, you could try going to Cinnamon Settings, click on Desktop and uncheck "Have the file manager handle the desktop".

The bad part of doing this is that you will no longer be able to open a context menu by right clicking on the desktop or put shortcuts in there. So it's up to you what's more important to you.

Hope this helped!
