I tried to backup and ran out of space. Now I can't boot Mint. I get error msg "The configuration defaults for Gnome power manager have not been installed correctly. Please contact your computer administrator."
I do not have a computer administrator.
I need your help.
I was running Mint 9
Thanks in advance.

Re: backup killed my boot
Would be helpful if you would share specifics on what/how you "backed up".

I used the default backup program in the menu to backup my home folder. I thought I intended to save the backup file to my desktop, but there's no new file.
I had received a low disc space warning, made more room and continued with the backup.
I suppose that I could save as much as I can and then upgrade, but I'm hoping there's an easy fix.
That's all there is to it really, but let me know if you need more info
Thanks

I'm not sure how to fix your problem, but for future reference the "mintbackup" (or "mintBackup" - I have both, different size files, tho they act the same) program is bad news (Edit: as you discovered!)
A better way to backup your /home/yourname directory is:

Code: Select all
$ cp -a /home/yourname /destination/.
