Uninstall Thunderbird?

Post by obscenelyappropriate »

Mint comes with Mozilla Thunderbird preinstalled, but I never use Thunderbird, I do all my email stuff with Yahoo. I went to the package manager to remove it, but it tells me to remove it I have to remove mint-meta-cinnamon, mint-meta-cinnamon-dvd, and thunderbird-gnome-support. Now removing thunderbird-gnome-support doesn't sound too bad, but I'm not sure about the other two. Will removing mint-meta-cinnamon and mint-meta-cinnamon-dvd have any adverse effects on my computer? I want to know before I remove them.

Removing the meta packages won't hurt but may future updates if those packages are updated. Better to just leave TB installed and ignore it.

"...it tells me to remove it I have to remove mint-meta-cinnamon, mint-meta-cinnamon-dvd..."

In synaptic try "unmarking" those and see if it'll just unintall thunderbird.

That usually - always? - works for me but might depend on ... ?

Just to note that I removed 5 Thunderbird packages from Mint 18.2 and it didn't remove meta packages.
