KDE Daemon, KWallet, and Update Manager

Post by chessmaster942 » Mon Oct 22, 2012 4:44 pm

After using KDE for a while, I've grown to love it, except for the few minor annoyances that just scream "fix me" that every linux distro has.

One of such annoyances is that every time I login, it informs me that KDE Daemon wants to access KWallet, and makes me put my password in. How can I just give it permission to use KWallet without needing a password?
Also, the update manager asks for a password just to start, how can I fix that? I want it to start without a password, but then ask for one when installing updates.

regarding kwallet with these 2 settings

and always allowing when prompted you shouldn't be bothered with it any more.

regarding UP: it has to ask for your root pw when it's launched, from that moment it's running as root as is the only way it can refresh the apt cache to see if there's any updates available, if by any change it was possible to launch it as user it would be useless, hope this makes sense.

I understand what you're saying about update manager, that makes sense.
For kwallet, how'd you get the kde daemon entries there? I cannot seem to add to the list, nor does it give the option to add kde daemon to the list when it asks...

I deleted KWallet under my home directory, and was able to put KDE Daemon under my always allow settings. It still asks me for my password on login. My settings look just like yours.

sorry then i don't know what else to advise;
to me it's always fairly straightforward to deal with kwallet:
- on fist login right after installation it prompts for its use and a p/w >> i create a really easy one and always allow it
- after that there's a few times (rekonq or chromium first run) that it shows up again >> always allow it and it's gone from my sight :mrgreen:
