dpkg encounters issues when upgrading Opera

Postby havok1977 » Mon Nov 12, 2012 12:15 pm

Hello, this has been nagging for a couple days and I think I'd be better off just asking, I am running Mint KDE 13; and a new version of Opera was made available on the LM mirrors recently. Now when I try to apply this upgrade to my PC I keep getting this complaint:

Setting up opera (12.10.1652-1linuxmint) ...
Warning in file "/usr/share/applications/caja-folder-handler.desktop": usage of MIME type "x-directory/mate-default-handler" is discouraged ("x-directory" is an old media type that should be replaced with a modern equivalent)

I tried removing the package completely, but I just get something similar:

So Im stuck there, every other package can be upgraded/removed/whatever but Opera just wont... and I havent found a way around this; any suggestions?

can you share please the output of

Code: Select all

lsb_release -a
and

Code: Select all

cat /etc/*issue

i might be wrong but probably the issue is "similar" to this one http://askubuntu.com/questions/81263/how-to-i-fix-software-center-after-installing-the-linux-mint-mate-desktop (but on reverse)

Sure thing, thanks for the help:

Code: Select all

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: LinuxMint
Description:    Linux Mint 13 Maya
Release:        13
Codename:       maya
 $ cat /etc/*issue
Linux Mint 13 Maya \n \l

that part looks good: we can skip that part.
1- do you have mintupdate installed?
2- do you have ubuntu's software-center installed?

Yes, both are installed; should I have just one or the other?

i believe that the issue is with USC but i can't help you much because i never used it and i use very rarely the ubuntu-versions of mint.

Since I dont really care for USC I just removed it from my installation and Opera finally can be updated properly. Thanks for the pointers.
